Critical and Candid Assessment on Plagiarism
A plagiarism checker allows a user to ascertain the originality, as well as grammar status of a written piece of work. Just like every student, I realized that I still have problems noticing exactly which instances in my writing could be marked as plagiarism, or even how to sufficiently avoid it. Even the words that I had borrowed from other works, and thought to have efficiently paraphrased, could still be highlighted as plagiarized. This problem was more manifest in quiz one than in two.
Basically, I realized that I have two major problems: I still do not clearly understand how paraphrasing can be adequately done so that the paraphrased texts do not turn out to be familiar to the online sources from I might have borrowed. Secondly, I have difficulties pointing out which particular areas within my text need referencing, so that even if the plagiarism checker highlights them as plagiarized, they, in actual sense, cannot be considered as so. Comparing quiz one and two, it emerged to me that with a little practice, I could perfect my skills of avoiding plagiarism cases with ease. Obviously, quiz one displayed an astounding level of citation audit errors, which were substantially reduced in quiz two.
As a matter of fact, practice makes perfect. As it was my first time to be introduced to the critical and candid test on plagiarism, I was surely bound to make several mistakes. Supportively, research shows that 73% of students especially those that have just joined their college levels of education have a high probability of plagiarizing (Hansen, Stith, & Tesdell, 2011, p.189). It is only through sensitization and frequent practice that one can get to shed off the characteristic behavior of delivering plagiarized pieces of work. As for me, I believe that I can perfect my skills, so long as I get to know the various ways through which an individual can plagiarize, forms of plagiarism, and how to avoid them. In this case, having resources that could help me know more about plagiarism would be the first step to improving my skills on citation and author acknowledgement. It is a fact that most people plagiarize simply because of lack of knowledge of the sin itself, and practically how to avoid it. Moreover, having access to the plagiarism checker would be very helpful in making me identify the hidden plagiarized parts, so that with continued practice, I can be able to completely avoid the vice.
Conclusively, it is undeniable that the very act of plagiarism has been deeply rooted in the field of education, especially in the education sector that is driven by Information Technology. With a little practice as well as having the right resources, however, one ,could easily learn to avoid it and write papers with 100% originality.
