Fitness/Wellness Mind Map
A mind map is a diagrammatical representation of the correlation between a given central concept, issue or idea and the corresponding words and tasks related to this concept. The central idea or concept is placed in the middle whereas the tasks and words linked to it are located around the central concept. The size, color and location of the various branches are intuitively placed as each aspect represents the importance or influence that the branch has on the central idea.
The mind map above shows the concepts of fitness and wellness, in addition to how they relate to various tasks and aspects. The relationship between the various components and the central concept is depicted by the difference in size of the various bubbles and the general spread of these bubbles. The popularity and intensity of the components is described by the size of the bubble. The more popular and intense the component is, the bigger the bubble. The components that are highly related or that influence the concept of fitness most are located closest to the centre of the mind map.
One component of the form of fitness and wellness that a person is in is the individual’s health. One’s state of health will influence the individual’s form of fitness. Most of the health ailments that affect an individual cause direct effects on the individual’s weight and mobility. This means that the person cannot exercise, eat well and thus becomes unfit with time.
The state of technology influences the form of fitness of an individual. In the past, when technology was at its lowest, humans used to walk on foot for many miles and they used to carry out many of the duties manually. The advancement in technology brought about minimal utilization of human effort in carrying out day-to-day duties. Flights of stairs have been replaced by lifts and the jog at the park by treadmills.
The type of sporting activity that one engages in has a direct effect on how fit one is. An individual who engages in sports often is bound to be more fit than one who does not. The type of sporting activity is also influential on one’s form of fitness. Some sporting activities are more energy intensive than others are. Sports like soccer, basketball and tennis are more energy intensive than their counterparts like chess, fencing and pool.
The feeding habit of an individual will influence the person’s form of fitness. A well balanced diet will end up keeping a person well and fit. On the other hand, indulging in junk food will lead one into being obese and unfit. Lacking certain nutrients in one’s diet will also lead one into being malnourished and thus unfit and unwell.
The type of work that an individual engages in will have a direct influence on the state of fitness and wellness that one has. Working in the manufacturing industry or participation in manual labor is more engaging and will have one expending much energy and using a lot of effort. This has the effect of having the muscles flex a lot using up much energy thus making one flexible and fit. On the other hand, secretarial duties will have one sitting behind a computer for the better part of the day. This renders one immobile and thus unfit and unwell over time.
