Effects of global unification

Introduction

Global or cultural communication has been greatly affected by advancing technology leading to efficiency and effectiveness. Older means of communication have been replaced by more effective and efficient means. For instance, initially, people used to depend more on fax machines and telephones to send information quickly. Currently, due to development of computer and internet technology, it is possible to send information quickly and to many people instantly. In addition, it is possible to send information in any form like audio, graphics or in written form. Consequently, the barrier between different cultures have been removed since people from different cultural backgrounds interact freely through the use of modern means of communication like instant messaging, email and social websites like facebook leading to the creation of an online global culture (Kluver 1999).

Advancement in technology leads to global unification which has got various effects on world economy (Boli & Lechner 2004). Trade barriers are eliminated and it becomes easy for countries in different parts of the world to trade freely. Free competition is also enhanced as a result of removal of the major trade barriers. Global unification affects all sectors of world’s economy since it also leads to unification of financial markets. It is therefore clear that though there are some negative impacts of unification on world economy, analytical studies have proved that it leads to the increase of the domestic gross product and all states benefit from the same though not on equal basis. International and national industries have been forced to specialize and expand since as a result of global unification; they can acquire raw materials from different parts of the world and can market and sell their products in the world market (Rooney 2007).
