The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) professions are a wonderful aspiration for today’s students. Yet, sadly, many underrepresented college students (minorities and women) find it difficult to master these subjects, and their parents do not always know how to help. Often the parents themselves have not been to college, and are unaware of the valuable assistance needed or available to support their students educationally, socially or financially. This primer will explore the many programs, resources, aids, courses, and governmental forms of assistance that can help parents and students feel empowered to forge ahead in their quest to seek a STEM career. I need am excellent introduction. One that I can personally augment and expand if necessary as my focus sharpens.
