A scholarly resource is written by a professional in the field or an academician with a Ph.D. or other terminal degree. The material is published in a book, scholarly journal, or other professional context. A key factor in recognizing these scholarly sources is that they (like you) cite their sources in a responsible academic manner.
Your Annotations should contain the following (feel free to use this list as a template for your work):
(1) Evaluate the author – what are his/her credentials/why is this person a credible authority on the subject?
(2) Summarize -in your own words, the information you will be using from the source.
(3) Analyze the content (describe key points, uncover controversies, and evaluate the merits of the source as it relates to your argument).
(4) Critique the argument – do you agree/disagree and why?
(5) Locate one quotation to be used in your paper.
You will complete a bibliography and annotation for each one of your references. Your Annotations should be in the neighborhood of 200-250 words – with the bibliographic citation & double spacing of the annotation, you can count on about one full page of text per source.
