Write a brief summary of main point or overall content, of the article or essay.

Part I

Find 3 different, substantive (that is to say, not one or 2 sentences) definitions of plagiarism, from distinctly different sources and using different technological tools. [Do not use a dictionary website for this definition.]

Provide MLA citations for those 3 sources.

Write a definition of the term in your own words. Provide specific quotes from the sources as part of your definition, limiting the inclusion of source material to 10-15% of your definition. Include MLA formatted in-text citations, as necessary.

Part II

Using different technological tools, find 5 distinctively different sources that focus on a recent, high profile plagiarism case in the field of music (rock, hip hop, blues, classical, etc.). Sources should include at least 2 that argue the position of the person, persons, group, or institution accused of plagiarism, and at least 2 that argue the position of the musician or group whose work is alleged to have been plagiarized.

Web sources must be authoritative and reliable.

Thus, in addition to providing the MLA formatted citation for each source, indicate why and how you have determined that this site, and this author (if known) are reliable, credible, and authoritative.

Write a brief summary of main point or overall content, of the article or essay. Provide a brief synopsis of the main points covered in a short article, op-ed piece, interview, etc..

Use relevant paraphrasing and specific quotes in your summary, limiting the direct use of source material to 10-15% of your own writing. Include MLA formatted in-text citations, as necessary.

Typed, double-spaced.

PLEASE NOTE THAT AT LEAST TWO OF YOUR RESEARCH SOURCES MUST BE ONES YOU FOUND BY SEARCHING THE KWG MEMORIAL LIBRARY HOLDINGS.

Part III

Using the research and writing you did related to your research of the term plagiarism, and a music plagiarism case, write a minimum two-page (typed, double-spaced) analysis of a specific ethical, societal, cultural, or political issue related to the plagiarism case you researched. Indicate which argument—plagiarism occurred or it did not, you found most convincing, and why.

In your analysis, consider the following question, as relevant to the case on which you focus: What specific problems exist for society, as they relate to the specific plagiarism allegedly, or actually (as determined in a court of law), perpetrated?

As part of your discussion, analyze and consider the soundness of the arguments made by both the accused plagiarist, the musician or group whose work was plagiarized, and those commenting on the case in your sources, as related to your specific analytical focus. Be sure to make clear the components of the case that fit your understanding of the definition of plagiarism.

Feel free to research more than the 8 minimum sources required for the 2 assignments leading up to this one. You are not required to include quotes from, or references to, all of your sources. In fact, if you were to do so, you would have to write a significantly longer piece than the one page analysis required. You should select from your source material the ideas and information most useful and germane to your analysis, and that you found presented the most effective argument for or against the plagiarism accusation.

Include relevant paraphrasing and specific quotes from the sources you consulted, as well as any other sources you might consult in preparing to write your analysis. Remember to keep the amount of source material used in your analysis to 20-25%.

Include a MLA formatted Works Cited page for this writing assignment that includes the 8 sources required for the related research assignments, and any other sources that you have consulted that informed your writing and thinking.
