1.Read Chapters 25-31 of Veli-Matti Karkkainen An Introduction to Religions (Write a 150 word reflection noting which position/s you find most convincing and why)

What is most convincing to me in this chapter is the universal God and historical underpinnings of the old testament. Often times I am profoundly disappointed when other religious approaches and understandings are discounted in the realm of God and His people. I am often confronted with the feeling of does not God reveal to His own people according to His own will? Accordingly Karkkainen states, Prevalent in the Old Testament; a person or nation is set apart for Gods purposes for the rest of the world. Particularity is put in the service of universality (p. 36).

I am a firm believer that who we are in this world is for His use, His purpose and His will. As such, one cannot discount what God may be doing in another persons life and/or religion in a way that is arrogant and knowing of Gods will. God is God all by Himself and deserves the right to do things which are not according to our understanding or our permission. According to Karkkainen, A range of biblical passages point to the relative value of religions and to Gods power in transforming religions and cultures to acknowledge the truth (p. 35). I pray that we allow Gods power to work in the lives of us all. God knows best in all situations. May we rely on God alone to guide our hearts and minds in regards to other religions, salvation and truth.

2. Read Chapters 4 & 5 of Clarke and Amos and access these approaches to other religious (150 words)

Religious pluralism has really pushed me during these last few weeks to look beyond myself. As a matter of fact, this entire class has made me question lots of things because knowledge allows me to formulate an opinion rather than assumption. According to Karkkainen, Pentecostal theology has the potential to develop a theology of religions which embraces religious plurality but steers a course between monistic and dualistic theologies of the Holy Spirit (p. 128). This is challenging for me but what is most challenging is the Karkkainen statement, A pluralist view that assumes all religions are manifestations for the same Spirit is neither true to the Christian gospel nor truly pluralist (p. 128). This makes me question Christianity and the true path.

Does the Hicks revolution have some validity???? Hick proposes a reinterpretation of traditional Christology, particularly the doctrine of the Incarnation He argues that the historical Jesus of Nazareth did not teach or apparently believe that he was God or God the Son, Second Person of a Holy Trinity, incarnate, or the son of God, a unique sense (p. 24) More intrinsic uncovering of truth and research is the way of this student Good luck to us all in our journey
