Social Psychology
A survey research is a technique of data collection that is concerned on human population. In this system, the researcher tries to make contact either directly or indirectly to the subjects being studied. These may be individuals, communities or organizations through use of systematic measurement methods such interview guides and questionnaires (Jeanne, 2011). Social scientists may employ this technique of data collection to analyze a broad range of social elements. This may be information derived from a large population to the single agents that represent social experiences. It can also be used to monitor the happenings and behavior of people in the particular society. Moreover, survery research may be used in such aspects as political science and market research (Haralambos, 2009).
Not only sociologists but also law enforcers employ survey research to study criminology especially in large communities. This is largely because they enable researchers or evaluators to move from a small sample to abroad one (Encyclopedia of Sociology, 1992). Survey studies can also be used to study and analyze an individual’s beliefs, perceptions as well as their behavior in the specific settings. Social scientists and law enforcers resort to this type of data collection to assess both group and individual attitudes concerning economical and political aspects as well as their own behaviors. In most cases, surveys are mostly used to improve people’s understandings concerning specific situations as well as identifying significant variables. In other times, they are also used to stir change through educating the individuals or groups and creating awareness programs.
Self-esteem on the other hand, is a term mostly employed in social psychology to depict an individual’s general assessment of his or her won worthiness. In essence, it is a judgment of an individual’s perception of self worth. The aspect of self-esteem is related with an individual’s self-consciousness (Jones, 2009).
