You must complete and submit your annotated bibliography on _________. (It must have 16 or more correctly identified, acceptable entries for you to get full credit.) Late penalty: Your final grade for this assignment will be docked a full letter grade for each day you submit it after the original deadline. (After class starts on _________ = late.)
Assignment Requirements:
Your bibliography must include a minimum of 16 entries (1 source = 1 entry). Your annotated bibliography will be docked half a letter grade for each and every entry fewer than 16. (For example, having only 13 entries = 1 ½ grade penalty.) I will drop entries that are not reliable, suitably objective, or appropriate for college-level research (children’s books, Wikipedia or wiki entries, self-published websites, sources with a clear political or religious bias, etc.) from your total number of sources. I will also drop sources that are in a language you cannot read.
Entries for all sources must appear in correct APA format. (Double-space citations. Single-space annotations.) Incomplete entries—without a full citation or in a format other than APA—do not count toward your 20+ total required entries.
(For example, submitting 1 entry in a format other than APA = ½ grade penalty.)
Every entry must have a 3-5 sentence Less than a 3-sentence annotation disqualifies an entry; it won’t count toward your 20 total entries. (For example, submitting 4 entries without full annotations = 2 grade penalty.)
Your annotated bibliography must include the kinds of entries listed below, in the amounts indicated. Your annotated bibliography will be docked half a letter grade for each and every missing type of entry. (For example, submitting only 3 journal articles, even if you have 20+ total entries = 1 grade penalty.)
Present your sources in the order listed below (books 1st, etc.):
3 – 4 books (this includes our text book and the short readings from Keywords, and the books on library hold)
1 – 2 Ted talk Presentations
2 – 4 scholarly journal articles (write doi # if available, if not URL))
4 online newspaper & magazine articles (these must be from legitimate newspapers’ like National Geographic)
2 Web sites—including Avatar wiki sites, wikipedia, or any other site where you find valuable information for the research (if you cite these, be sure to add where they led you in your deeper research, they are invaluable sites to get you started in this research
2 – 4 reliable web sites that are not wikis (University (.edu), government (.gov), and non-profit (.org) sites are best, but objective, unbiased magazines, TV stations, radio stations, and other kinds of media outlets are OK).
1 – 2 film, video, or TV program (DVD and online are both OK)
Formatting:
Use 12-point, Times New Roman Font
Double-space citations. Single-space annotations.
Organize/group your entries by type (for example, put all books together).
Give each section a heading (for example, “Books:”, “”Journal Articles:”, etc.).
Alphabetize entries within each section (for example, alphabetize your books, alphabetize your journal articles, etc.).
Entry Guidelines (for each source/entry):
For each source/entry on your annotated bibliography, you must:
1) Record the key publication info in a correctly formatted APA entry.
2) In the annotation for each source/entry, you must:
Identify what kind of source it is (scholarly journal, single-author book, online newspaper article, website, film, online magazine article, etc.). Underline and bold the kind of source it is.
Describe where, how, and when you found the source.
Explain what factors help you establish the source’s reliability (such as peer review, having been published by a university press, an author’s credentials,).
Include 1 or 2 sentences summarizing what kind of info the source contains.
Explain how the source is likely to help you make your argument in your research-based essay (focus on which question(s) from the prompt it may help you answer and explain how it will help you answer the question(s)).
