In Plague of Doves, we see characters whose lives and actions are guided by a misunderstanding or lack of knowledge regarding their family stories. In class, we talked about the fact that family stories have a very deep influence on individuals and about the consequences of not fully understanding family patterns of emotional functioning.
With all of these topics in mind, please write 1000-1500 words on the influence of family (or group or cult) stories on the actions of the characters in the book. Be sure to mention what you see as the consequences of a lack of understanding regarding their families’ patterns of emotional functioning (the ways in which family members react to events both positive and negative). Also, discuss the ways in which you see the characters\’ own narratives coming into conflict with their family or community (or cult) narratives. For all of this, please include examples from the book, and feel free to discuss examples from your own narrative where appropriate.
