• 7 – 10 page in length, must be formatted per APA style
• Overall narrative summary regarding the problem including:
• Introduction
• Problem introduction – what is the problem you are interested in and why is it important?
• Role of social workers – what role do social workers play in the problem?
• If problem is related to your internship agency provide VERY brief description of the agency and it’s role in helping alleviate the problem
• Problem overview
• Prevalence – how prevalent is the population, does it change by population?
• How is it defined in the research – how does the research describe the problem?
• Who and what systems are impacted by the problem and how
o Consider all systems – individual, family, community, society
• Who and what influences the problem and the outcomes and consequences
o Again, consider all related systems – individual, family, community, society
• Etiology
• Theories about causes of problem, including different or competing theories,
• Discuss specific variables, or conditions that contribute to the development or maintenance of problem
ASSIGNMENT 01, SECTION 03: INTERVENTION
• 6 – 8 pages in length, must be formatted per APA style
• Chose and discuss ONE and ONLY ONE social work appropriate intervention for your problem of interest
• Make sure your intervention is well studied
• at least 2 – 4 google pages that talk about the intervention specifically

• Use section 2 etiology as reference point
o Homeless mentally ill caused by stigma versus lack of services
• This section should inform read as to why and how intervention works
• Full service partnerships – no specific theoretical articles
• But how and why do people think it works?
• It based on the “recovery model” of mental illness (lots of theoretical articles)
• It fills in gaps that have been theorized as barriers to care (also in the literature)
• PLEASE feel free to ask for help if you are having trouble with theory
• Analysis of the empirical literature on the intervention (3 -4 PAGES)
• At least 3 – 5 peer reviewed articles
• Summarize the entire literature (NOT each article), be sure to include all outcomes of interest
• Discuss methodological strengths and weaknesses of the overall evidence

What kind of studies have been conducted
• Internal validity – strong study designs with high internal validity?
• External validity – is the research generalizable to your population?
• Sample size – evidence based on a few small studies or multiple large studies?
• Problems with measurement – were the variables operationalized and measured appropriately?
o Is intervention considered evidence based? Why or why not?
Hint – This is based entirely on discussion above!
• Reviews and meta-analysis articles are especially good for this – though do not use review summary as a quote!
