You are required to first identify a case study concerning business ethics from the media. Your task is to provide an informed analysis of the relevant ethical issues pertaining to your particular case. The case study should be a contemporary example and must have been in the U.K news no earlier than January 2012. Your sources should be of a high quality e.g. quality newspapers such as the guardian, the times, the independent. Similarly, if you access your media articles on-line, this should be done only using reputable web-sites, e.g. bbc.co.uk/news.
It is for you to identify an ethical issue / case study in the media, and then provide an analysis of the ethical issues using relevant theory and research. This will require you to engage in extra reading – start with Matten & Crane, and the extra references provided in the handbook. You may also wish to search relevant journals which are available electronically through the library. Again, see the handbook for suggestions of relevant journals.
Your analysis should include clear identification of the issues i.e. does it concern employee rights, whistleblowing, corruption, etc. This will set the scene enabling you to situate your case study within the relevant ethics literature. Using relevant research and theory, you are required to discuss the consequences of the ethical issues identified on the various stakeholders affected and also suggest how these ethical issues can / cannot be resolved.
Your case study needs to be news-worthy – the more news-worthy it is the more articles you are likely to find, providing you with potentially more information for your analysis. You are allowed to choose up to 3 articles from different sources relating to your case study.
The word limit for this assignment is 3,000 words. You must also include copies of your chosen media article(s) in your appendices these are NOT included in the word count.
