Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is what a person uses to recognize his/her emotions together with other people’s emotions. This is meant to help them recognize the emotional state of people and deal with them better. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is the ability of a person to acquire, understand and use information in a meaningful way. The difference is that people using IQ utilize information alone whereas those using EQ utilize information, feelings and emotions to make decisions. People who use EQ are known to make good and sound judgment with consideration of the available information.

One of the known approaches to be in check of emotions is through adoption of type B personality traits. Such trains include being patient, engaged, supportive among others. This helps one to be in full check of emotions in varying situations and circumstances.  To be in check with emotions, one has to avoid a situation that might lead to emotional arousal and this minimizes the chances of getting involved in unnecessary emotional reactions (Gardner, n.d).

The major repercussions of failing to manage and control emotions include development of psychological conditions like stress, depression and other mental impairments. Failure to manage emotions also leads to violence. In such a case, violence is elicited on simple provocation (Scott, 2012).

In order to manage emotions, various strategies have to be applied. One should be open minded and ready to face diversified situations with a sober mind regardless of the circumstances in hand. With this strategy, one gets psychologically prepared for the eventual outcomes of the situation. Proper communication also helps in management of emotions. It is advisable to use calm and friendly language. Proper communication helps an individual to open up for assistance from other people when facing a challenging situation. Exercise also happens to be one of the best strategies for management of emotions. It helps the mind to relax and take time for the best course of action (Scott, 2012).

Family, friends and peers happens to be the closest interacts. It is advisable to ensure that emotions are appropriate when intersecting with close significant figures. There are various ways to ensure appropriateness of emotions in such a situation. It is vital to appreciate the relationship and to be aware of the damages any emotional outburst might cause to that relationship. It is also important to always have a second thought before taking a course of action in the presence of such significant figures. Embracing the culture of consultation, respect for one another and humanity also serves to enhance appropriateness of our emotions (Gardner, n.d).
