Assignment 1:
Reader of federal Law No (24) of the year 1999, for the protection of the environment will find too many definitions such as:
- Environment
- Marine Environment
- Ecological Systems
- Natural Reserve
- Environment Degradation
- Environment Pollution
- Materials and Polluting Factors
- Environmental Impact Assessment :
- Environmental Protection
- Environmental Development
- Sustainable Development
- Environmental Disaster
- Hazardous Substances

- Waste Management
- Waste Handling
- Waste Disposal
- Dirty Ballast Water
- Dumping
- Semi-Closed Public Premises.
- You are requested to copy and paste the definition of these 20 items from the environmental law 24, 1999 (attached), and you will try to find how these terms have been defined in other legislative context in other countries. Compare between each definition in UAE federal law (24, 1999) and the corresponding one in other legislations (such as USA, Canada, UK..etc.).
- Compare between the two definitions and assess the UAE definition on the basis of (Clarity, simplicity, technical aspects, complete, incomplete, clear, difficult to understand, misleading…..). It may be even the opposite, the international definition from US, Uk or Canada can be incomplete or not clear and UAE definition may be better. You need to write down these comments in the comparison part.
- Note: For the international definition, you have to put at least one definition or more. For example, Definition of “environment” can be provided from UK law, US law, Canada law or other countries. You may write more than one definition and compare between all of them for the term “Environment” with the definition mentioned in the UAE law 24, 1999. So, don’t stick to only one international law.
- Some definitions could be found from US law and not available in UK or canada, and some others could be found in UK law, but not in US law. So, it doesn’t matter if you provided the definition from different countries. If you found in one country, it should be fine and if you find it in more than one country its better. But, at least you write one definition from these international countries.
