In this activity, you are going to search the Web for images of environments that you think would be appropriate for one of the plays you have read. The goal is not to find a perfect match in one picture, but to find three different images that may have features of architecture and/or atmosphere that start to address the needs of the plays action. Your choices:
Find three images of living rooms that would be right for God of Carnage. Keep in mind where the play happens and the status of the characters. A search for living rooms is pretty unfocused, so add key words to get more specific results.
OR
Find three images of house exteriors that would be right for Fences. This may be a little more of a challenge, since August Wilson isnt really specific about what city the play is set in. Know that he was inspired by the neighborhood in which he lived: the Hill District in Pittsburgh.
You are NOT looking for images of sets from productions.
For each image:
Explain what elements of architecture or atmosphere lead you to think this image is appropriate for the play. You might consider things like obstacles, entrances and exits, atmospheric conditions like time of day, and more.
What specific action(s) from the play do those elements help reveal?
Can the characters do the things they need to do in this space?
