In the book, the author insinuates that gays and lesbians need social support just like any other people in the society and the best approach that human rights activists are using is dialogue. “It is high time the society sat down with the various intellectuals in critical fields like psychology, sociology, physicians, medical professionals and legal officers to come up with a sound resolution that represents the interest of everybody and not necessarily the majority” (Rimmerman, 2007). The book is quite relevant to the study.

Wardle, Lynn D. Marriage and Same-Sex Unions: A Debate. Westport, Conn: Praeger, 2003, pg 78-9. Print.

The authors of this book note that it is very conspicuous that gay marriages have been shunned by many countries within their constitutions. According to the Wardle, “This is the reason as to why the victims are detached socially from the society” (79). The increasing number of reported cases across the globe sends signals of long standing silence by the victims and it is quite important that the community members undertake further research to address the plight of this minority group and restore sanity and purity expected of marriage.

It is imperative that the biological scientists work hand in hand with the community members and explain visibly what causes homosexual arrangement. This is likely to ease tension and lead to formulation of proper modalities to counter this kind of problem. Culture and law should not enslave people but should be in place to guide and improve the living standards of people. “This debate is delicate since it arouses the significance of religion in regulating the activities in the life of a human being” (Friedman 46). Note that gay people also feel satisfied. Besides, they are also entitled to live a descent life of choice that calls for the various stakeholders to capture their views concerning their stand on the moral fabric of the society, and if they can willfully denounce their positions or seek other alternatives.

The above scholars stand out in their liberal views on gays. Some scholars claim that by accepting same sex marriage and lesbianism, the whole meaning of marriage is changed. From the different arguments that range from cultures to religious belief, it is worth noting that they appreciate the significance of marriage and the height of holiness attached to it. “Both schools of thought in the various religious doctrines and socio-cultural laws underscore that marriage should strictly be about a heterosexual affair” (Eskridge and Spedale 77). In other words, the order of the society highly recommend heterosexual relationship. Anything otherwise is an abomination irrespective of the cause and is rebuked. On the other hand, various human rights lobby groups have sought the scientific cause of such behaviors and are vowing to express the plight of the gay victims through constitutional approach.

Gay marriage is an abomination in most cultures in the globe and must have been being practiced in silence lest the victims felt the wrath of the society. With the emerging human rights groups, there has been a war pitting gay marriage supporting groups against the antagonistic cultural and religious adherents. According to Gerstmann, “Many unfounded facts surround this topic, and this calls for further research to give a deeper insight into the causes and the amicable approach towards the contentious issue” (58). Many scholars have done extensive research study on this topic but there is still a substantial information gap that leaves it not fully resolved. This is what the book tries to evaluate in the course of its discourse.

Goldberg is a distinguished scholar. The propositions by him are liberal. As Goldberg-Hiller asserts, “Leisure is not the main role of sex; child birth for perpetual existence of man is the cardinal role of this act. It is therefore not sensible and illogical to accept homosexuality that contradicts the biological order of procreation and society’s perpetual existence” (88). Little genetic connection has been found in relation to gay and lesbian sexual relationships. It a contentious issue that has not spared even atheists who neither believe in any supreme being nor subscribe to any culture.

Some physicians allude that the issue of same sex marriage has varied factors and among them is biological make up in regards to hormonal response and direction of balance they have in the body. It is argued that, “some people are born with the physical features of a given sex orientation but the hormonal content of the body is skewed towards the opposite sex” (Koppelman 78). This explains why they will tend to exhibit abnormal sexual attraction toward the same sex, say a man being attracted to another or the same case for women. In the eyes of the members of the public, such behaviors will always attract outright criticism without any investigation to ascertain the cause. As this takes place, the victims of this problem feel disconnected to the society and this constitute the stigmatization.

Research has been conducted to determine the cause of such uncommon social behaviors such as gays, lesbians, or both. The problem is that the beliefs of the general society in line with various religious faiths are vehemently opposed to same sex couples. On the other hand, various human rights groups have been agitating for freedom and non-stigmatization of this group basing their arguments on what they call biological orientation on the victims. According to Lee, “The call for democracy is not limited to elections but extends to such other social issues in the society on the guise of constitution. This topic requires sober debate and not the type of stalemate that the two antagonists and protagonist factions are showing” (121). The religious and social extremists are of the opinion of excommunication or execution of such social misfits as they call them in the society. They rely on ethical standards defined by religious books and the culturally defined standards to advance their take on this matter. However, it is important that scientific facts be put to task before setting up legal structures and redefining ethical standards so that a just method is applied in reconciling the gay and lesbian rights activists and the society.

Lopez, Rex. Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized?München [u.a].: GRIN-Verl, 2007. Print.

In the 21st century, the world has undergone a tremendous transformation that boasts of technological advancements, political realignment, and socio-cultural changes. This has actually resulted in increased campaign for democracy and respect to human rights. With the advent of such freedom in the society, same sex marriage, which is commonly termed as gay acts, got its way into the public. According to Lopez, “Such a relationship is regarded as a social ill and the perpetrators have always found themselves under serious condemnation and even excommunication in extreme cases in the various cultural structures in the world” (37). Some people have been introduced into such acts and end up accepting such marriage arrangements under the influence of friends and lack of moral support that would mitigate the vice. The debate does not end with the causes but the reaction of various groups towards it in the society and the corresponding measures that has been formulated to quell the raging debate about it.
