In the following video from BBC New Magazine, Robert Graves’ son discusses his father’s war experience and reads some of his poetry. This video, WWI poet Robert Graves’ son: How war shaped my father’s life, “http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-28344118” provides some interesting background on who Robert Graves was. Does this background change your reading of Graves’ texts? Does the text help you understand Graves’ text better? In what ways have we, as a society, taken steps to care for soldiers returning from war? In what ways do we continue to allow soldiers to remain broken?
Additionally, after reading assigned author biographies, poems, and excerpts discuss what if any impressions of the British efforts the authors portray? Do they all have the same concerns? Does the biographical information provided for each author provide any insight in to the tone of their writing? If so, how?
