1.0 Introduction

Information system is important for many businesses. Senior management requires information to assist them in planning different business operations. In addition, middle level managers’ require adequate information to enable them examine and manage various business activities. As such, businesses have different information system functioning simultaneously (Schell & McLeod, 2007). There are several types of information system for organizations. Popular as well as proven are the application software that have guidelines or tutorials that direct users and/or computers to carry out particular tasks. Considering that there are various uses of computers, there are countless application softwares (Avgerou, 2000). This proposal aims at outlining different information system available for a small, brick and mortar, nostalgic record store business.

1.1 Types of information system

For a small, brick and mortar, nostalgic record store, five different information systems that can be used to assist in increasing productivity as well as meet clients needs (Rainer,et al. 2009). Some of these systems are show in Table 1

Type of the system Purpose
Transaction processing system This system will help in processing business transactions such as payroll.
Management information system Provides summarized reports of business transactions such as sales for every client
Executive dashboard This system will provides structured as well as summarized data on all aspects of the business
Supply chain management (SCM)  system This system will manage flow of products , services and information among supplies and other businesses
Electronic commerce system It will help the businesses carry out its transactions with its clients and other firms

1.2 Benefits of information system

 

Some of the benefits of information system for nostalgic record store include:

  • Plan and implement daily business activities
  • Help in the future expansion of the store
  • Increase efficiency by creating required reports, business budgets; track all transactions among others (Rainer, et al. 2012).

1.3 Drawbacks

  • High cost involved
  • The technical know-how leads to hiring of a technical expert which strains the budget of an emerging entity
  • A technical hitch may lead to delayed processes
  • Uncertainty in the delivery and the entire transaction
  • Susceptible to viral attacks

2.0 Conclusion

 

It is evident that nostalgic record store will aim at providing a variety of music genre to the public, information system will be important in different departments of the business. Basically, this will increase efficiency (John & Joe, 2002).
