Love in L.A.
Introduction
It is a story about a busy freeway in L.A. where there was an accident involving two vehicles. This is where one of the drivers, Jake, is slowly day dreaming about how he would love his vehicle to be in the streets of L.A. with a new stereo and seats. However, when the traffic begins moving, he commits a small accident by hitting another car from behind. The driver of the other car was a woman who seemed to be very rich and interested in Jake. In the event, it seemed as if there were some few sparks of love developing between them but in an awkward situation. According to the topic of the story, it is very funny how the setting of the story is set and yet it brings out the message according to the title.
Discussion
The story is placed in a setting of a busy freeway in Hollywood, Alvarado Street. The vehicles are moving slowly in a traffic jam where the streetlights are red. In the setting, there are two vehicles (Meyer, 48). One of the vehicles seems to be from a poor man most likely an immigrant while the other vehicle is a Toyota and seemed to be an expensive one from a rich owner. Additionally, in the setting the two vehicles happen to have a small accident after the green light in the busy freeway. Lastly, the story is in a setting where there is a negotiation between two drivers of different genders and class. Therefore, the setting of the story tends to bring very many reactions from the readers point of view.
The setting of the story is so realistic as compared to the other normal stories commonly told. In a love story, people expect that two strangers from very different places and background meet and they pass a series of hardships but later they find love and live together happily ever after. In the setting of the story, the two meet in awkward situation, that is, in a car accident. In the process of negotiation, is when love is seen where the two drivers portray some sparks of love, which might be developing. In this kind of setting, it is realistic because it something that can happen anywhere in the streets of L.A. as compared to the settings of other stories, which are not realistic at all.
Another way in which the setting of the story is also realistic is the way Jake is trying to charm the beautiful woman. In a typical day on a normal occurrence, when a man sees a beautiful woman, he is expected to use every means possible to lure her despite the situation they are in as opposed to stories often told. For instance, an accident has happened, between the two drivers of the different vehicles. As expected in real life the Male driver, Jakes has committed an accident where he hits another car. On realizing that the owner of the vehicle is beautiful woman, he takes this opportunity and starts charming the woman despite the situation he is in (Meyer, 49). This is very opposed to other settings of other stories where unrealistic events happen.
The story also has a realistic setting because of the way Jake is able to lie to the woman due to his condition and class. As the story begins, it can be seen that Jake is a very poor man. He is daydreaming about how would love his car to be. Additionally, Jake wishes that he had a permanent job that will save him from all his troubles. Moreover, the fake number plates and the inability for him not pay the insurance of the car shows that Jake is a poor man and is not able to pay for the damages of the car that he has caused. It is because that this, Jake has ended up lying to the woman like a normal person who is poor would do incase he was in the same situation as Jake.
The setting of the story is so ironical in the way a love story formulates from it. This is where in a busy street of L.A. after people are involved in accident they are able to form love sparks. What is generally expected is that the driver who has hit the other one should be panicking. This is because he has committed a crime but in the story, the driver is doing the exact opposite of that. Instead, the driver is trying to charm the woman with beautiful words meaning that he want the relationship to move personal. In a normal situation, the person should be worried about the accident (Hart, 23).
Another irony of the story is that the woman is tolerating the man after what Jake had done to her car. In most instances, the woman or the person whose car has been hit usually does not tolerate what the other driver says. Additionally, there is usually a heated debate between the two drivers based on accident. In the case the woman is warmly, receiving the charming of Jake warmly by the way she is laughing at every word jakes tells him. This shows that she is happy about the comments despite the situation. This is so ironical since that is not what would happen in a normal situation.
Conclusion
This is a love story about two drivers who tend to form some love moments despite the degree of the problem at hand. In showing love in the story, it has a very funny setting despite the events of the story. In this ways, it has showed a lot of reality like in a real life situation. First it has shown the true side of man where men are known to capitalize on the different opportunities they get. Secondly it has shown what a poor man is expected to do incase he was found in the situation as Jake. Lastly, the setting of the story is in such a way that it proves these is a real life experiences as compared to the lies that are there. On the other hand, the story is very ironical because of the way the woman is behaving in the setting of the story. Thus, the setting of the story can be said to be very ironic and realistic due to the reasons presented above.
