Organizational Behavior
Staff motivation explains the basic enthusiasm of workers on work and incentives provided in order to accomplish organizational tasks. Motivating staff is the combination of fulfilling the requirements and needs of employees and workplace factors that enhance their motivation (Muller, 2010). Sit involves the processes and programs, which are established in order to boost the morale of workers by acknowledging and rewarding their work. Different organizations have different ways of motivating their workers such as giving them monetary rewards, support, and offering excellent conditions of working. Some organizations use a single program to ensure motivation while others use more than one program or strategy to ensure motivation. Motivation results to increased overall productivity and profitability in organizations. This paper, therefore, seeks to explain in detail the program used by Coca Cola Company in order to ensure that employees are motivated. It also addresses how the program(s) has increased the productivity, and ultimately the profitability of the company.
Coca Cola recognizes that its success depends on motivated and committed workers. This being the case, the program used in employee motivation is a combination of various support methods and resources. Coca Cola makes it a priority to treat its employees well and assist them in developing and reward their working life. The company creates a working environment in which workers can develop skills for improvement, excel in their performance, and move towards their career objectives (Pangarkar, 2011). In addition, the company provides training and development programs, coaching and feedback, on-the-job training, which ensures that every individual working in the company has the resources needed to build their careers and learn more. The company continues to ensure that the goal of motivating employees is a priority because motivated and inspired workers have no issues in delivering their potential, which, in turn, results in increased performance and profitability of the company. This has been witnessed since its establishment in the 1880’s.
Coca Cola ensures employee engagement or involvement at all levels. As mentioned, the company acknowledges that its success depends on committed and motivated workers. The company requires its employees to feel that they contribute in helping the company meet its goals and have knowledge on what they are. The company has distinct ways of measuring the level of engagement of workers with the company and contentment with their working lives including employee surveys and constructive dialogue with worker representative groups (Pangarkar, 2011). The company provides a great workplace as it sees it as an important way for workers to take pleasure in their working life and focuses on ensuring that working for the company is satisfying, fun, and rewarding. Important areas that the company focuses on as part of ensuring a great place of work program include free Coca Cola fruit and drink, on-site company gym, cafeteria, credit union, dry cleaning, flexible working and summer hours, a Cycle to Work scheme, free parking, GDA information in the personnel restaurant, and a learning allowance. There is also the company’s specially elected Green Team that motivates workers to live more sustainably and coordinates programs and initiatives such as water usage in the working environment, cleaning up of Thames 21 river, and individual carbon foot printing (Pangarkar, 2011). The working environment for the company in all branches is energizing and motivates workers every day.
In order to attract and retain the best personnel, the company recognizes that it needs to invest in development. It takes training and development exceptionally serious (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). The company has endlessly invested in these over the years in order to reinforce business performance and stresses on worker development plans, leadership development for organizational managers and workers, internal talent or skill management, and worker performance management. On pay and reward, giving competitive rewards and benefits is important for the company in order to attract and retain the best and most skilled and talented individuals to take the business in a forward direction. Coca Cola takes into consideration different elements including healthcare, pension, and additional holiday that form a complete benefits and compensation package for the company’s employees (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). Coca Cola’s programs are often benchmarked against competitors in the industry in each country. The company provides an open and inclusive working environment in which every person is treated justly. The company believes that having individuals from diverse backgrounds with distinct talents and life experiences is a true bonus for the business. This is why valuing and respecting the diversity of its workers is core to its values and mission (Kurtz & Boone, 2011). The company also keeps it as part of employment practices and policies to protect employees against discrimination and prejudice and provide fair treatment and equal opportunity for all people irrespective of sex, age, or ethnic background. Communication in the organization at all levels improves employee motivation.
Employee motivation results it increased input or performance by employees. This is because when employees have all that is needed to increase their morale, their level productivity in the organization increases. Increased productivity, in turn, results in increased profitability for the company, and this is what has kept Coca Cola successful in the soft drinks or beverage industry for all those years. The company’s employees are highly motivated.
