Overpopulation and One Child Policy:

The Chinese used to encourage people to have many children in order to acutely increase the country’s workforce. Unfortunately by the 1990’s the government realized the rate at which the population grew would soon become unmanageable. Hence this essay discusses the introduction of a number of measures by the Chinese governments that were focused in reducing the country’s birth rate resulting to a gradual and slow population growth rate. The one child policy was the most important among the measures and it required married individuals to only have one child. This strategy has been deeply criticized globally for going against basic human rights evidenced by a must sterilizations, abortions and neglect of the girl baby through a must sterilizations, abortions and disregard of the girl child.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Overpopulation:
The introduction of the one child policy was initiated by leaders who were very much worried about the ability of the country to support a speedily increasing population. Although this proved to be very effective in keeping the country’s population in toes it beard quite a number of negative social consequences that were deeply experienced. By the end of the 50’s there was a plan to make birth control popular in all areas that were heavily populated and hence promote child birth in a large scale. Again this was followed by a rumor campaign that which was followed in the 60s by a propaganda campaign promoting late marriage and a two-child family under the slogan of “one is a good few, two is just enough, and three is over” (White 1994; 2006).
The implementation of birth control policy was gradually transferred from a voluntary-based birth planning program to a state-based control of population growth. During the 1982 census, the people of Chinese had climbed over 1 billion in number, and if this acute growth continued, it was noted that by the end of the century there would be around 1.4 billion people in Chin, and this would definitely loom China’s determined goals of transformation. Hence in 1979the one child policy was formally announced by the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and the State Council’s Resolution in relation to the birth control.
