People’s Influence on My Dream
In contemplating people’s influence on my dream, I find that my dad has played a great role in making my life better. The tribulations and trials that I have faced at certain stages in my life have driven me into making decisions that have had positive impact in my life especially in shaping my personality, principles, and motivations.
My experiences and achievements are a reflection of the continuous encouragement instilled to me by my dad, a very success businessperson. His business involved importation of goods from international markets and later on selling them in domestic market. After completing my college education, I felt that I had the relevant knowledge and skills that would help me in managing a business. Initially, I was interested in starting a large wholesale store that deals with basic household commodities. After telling my dad about this idea, he failed to agree because he believed that such businesses are associated with very low returns. He gave me an alternative idea of opening an online store.
My dad explained to me the benefits of starting an online business and explained the procedure involved. Apart from the teachings that I obtained from my dad, I also went a step ahead to research on how to conduct a successful online business. Undertaking the research process did not take a lot of time because I had access to books that addressed such issues. With the help of my dad, I managed to open an online store within duration of less than five months. My dad catered for all financial requirements and helped me to complete all the necessary legal requirements. Because of my interest to succeed, I found it worthwhile to work full-time other than opening my store for few hours. As my business progressed, I continued to learn new techniques that would help me reduce on the cost incurred in finalizing online transactions. These techniques had positive impact on the level of returns generated by the business. Although I had my own ways of dealing with challenges, my dad was always ready and willing to assist me in handling challenges that were beyond my control. I was very careful when dealing with issues that involved my clients to avoid instances where some of them opt to shift to other businesses with similar products and services. As Pugh & Bacon (2003), explains, a business owner should be in a position to understand that customer expectation is a continuous process that should be handled in an appropriate manner. In any business, business managers can easily identify customer specific customer requirements by talking to them directly and solving their problems in good time.
The success of my online store is attributed to the support and continuous encouragement given to me by my dad. Without him in my life, my online store would not have realized this level of success. All the choices and decisions I make are based on our relationship with my dad. He taught me how to remain strong and committed in every activity that I undertake. In short, my dreams and accomplishments are a direct result of my dad. The influence of my dad on my dream has played a very significant role not only in making my online store a success, but has also helped me to understand the strategies for overcoming business challenges.
