– This paper is a critical analysis of the policy FORMATION and AGE
NDA-SETTING stages of the selected policy, which is the policy RESPONSE TO the social issue, NOT an analysis OF the social issue:
– Utilise the Althaus (2013) policy cycle framework for applied analysis to the selected policy
– Utilise the Bacchi (2009) What’s the Problem Represented to Be? (WPR) framework – chapters 1 and 2 – for APPLIED analysis to the selected policy
– As applicable, engage with OTHER ANALYTICAL FRAMEWORKS for APPLIED analysis to go beyond the basis task, for
example:
•social divisions of welfare framework (Titmuss)
•governmentality framework (Foucault, Dean, Colebatch and many others)
•social construction framework; discourse framework (go to C.O. Learning Resources pp. 5-6 and relevant
discipline journals)
•critical theory framework; ideology framework; feminist framework (as above)
– Keep focus on ‘big picture’ issues of policy formation and agenda setting – the KEY issues and issue drivers
– Keep focus on the POLICY PROBLEMATISATIONS AND REPRESENTATIONS for critical analysis
– Provide CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL DISCUSSION, rather than just descriptive discussion
– Sophisticated academic expression and professional presentation
