Professionalism in nursing entails practicing justified behaviors while executing the nursing role. Professionalism is often identifiable through constant observation. This concept demands health care professionals to abide by the recommended ethical and professional values. This is essential because high level of professionalism increases the quality of services delivery. Professionalism also increases the level of satisfaction among patients. According to Brous (2012), nurses should be fully committed, compassionate, and be sensitive about ethical concerns in order to offer high quality services to patients. Nurses should also present a person-centered, safe and evidence based nursing that respects and upholds human rights requirement and dignity. Furthermore, professionalism demand nurses to work within the specified legal, ethical and professional framework. The complicated nature of nursing profession requires nurses to work closely with other stakeholders including social care professionals, community members, service users and patients’ families. Interestingly, the concept ensures that nurses have access to career-long learning opportunities that make them stay referenced on the nursing principles, which they may have learned years earlier. Secondly, professional development assists in the establishment of skills and competence in some critical nurses activities. Furthermore, professional development programs helps in the improvement of skills and competence required in achieving the health system short term and long-term goals. Finally, professional development programs are essential in addressing the health needs of all patients in accordance to the emerging technological and social development (Gloria, 2007).

Through consistent utilization of the available professional development programs and activities, I hope to improve my professionalism and the quality of my service delivery. Secondly, professional development will equip me with diverse knowledge about the nursing career, which will increase my ability of solving problems that I may encounter while in my duty. It is apparent that nursing role is a challenging career that demands individuals with exemplary expertise for handling contentious scenarios. Consequently, professional development will enable me improve my performance because it will empower me with essential information enabling me to make decisions from an informed perspective. Moreover, thorough professional development programs I am likely to learn and practice the most effective strategies of complying with the set ethical and legal guidelines and principles. Interacting with other professional through the available professional development programs, will enable me to learn skills and competences required in dealing with emerging challenging and intricate health complications (Brous, 2012). Furthermore, professional development activities will offer me an opportunity of advancing my understanding on the new development and technology. This will offer me the opportunity of incorporating the most modern and efficient technology in my practice enabling me to improve my productivity. I also expect to improve my professional competence through participating systematically in the planned professional development activities. Lastly, professional development provides a strategic approach for improving my leadership and teamwork competence.
My Long-term goals
I am looking forward to being a prominent nursing expert in the health system. In addition, by relying on leadership skills acquired through participating fully in the existing professional development activities, I hope to serve as a manager or an overseer in the healthcare system. I also hope to utilize professional development models effectively in advancing my nursing knowledge. In the next ten years, I hope to have developed my career to be a professional consultant. I will help newly recruited and serving professional to understand the importance of professionalism in nursing while in this position. Moreover, I am intending to conduct systematic researches and studies to unearth the most effective and emerging practices that can improve the quality of service delivery in health system.
