Family is described in many different ways and the law is usually on the side of a married family. Family has been defined as a group of people who are related to one another by blood, marriage or adoption and who live together and bear and raise children. But, today I think it is totally different because family has been modified in diverse living arrangements and relationships such as single parent households, cohabiting unmarried couples, domestic partnerships of lesbians or gay couples and several generations of family members such as grandparents, parent and child living under the same roof.
I think since the traditional definition of family has changed the laws should be changed also. I think the laws of dealing with situations of an outside relationship should be dealt with the to a certain extent the same as within the family. For example in many states, child adoptions are usually for married people and not for many single people, cohabitating couples or gay couples even if they can afford raising the child and have efficient means of producing food,clothing, and financial secure. I think the laws should not be any different if the individuals can take care of a child. Marriage does not guarantee that an adopted child will be taken care of and loved just like an outside relationship doesn’t, but it can give everybody a chance to adopt and raise a child that need a family regardless of being married or being in an outside relationship.
