Reading Response

Please read THE PHILOSOPHY OF SYMBOLIC FORMS that I uploaded.

The response statement is written using objective terms, consistent with the terminology and nomenclature of specific readings. Subjective insights must foreground concepts established from readings, discussions, and assignments. Critical explorations of a reading must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the text’s argument as a basis for critique. These attempts stress the underlying structure of the argument in terms of historical, literary, and theoretical principles.

In response to reading summary prompts, at least 4 quotes are used. A legitimate quote represents a statement (or ideological position) in relation to a concept definition or idea. Whether a student agrees or disagrees with an author’s idea, it is important to quote the idea as stated by the author. Only then can the student offer observations and critique. As a check against misrepresentation and an overuse of paraphrasing, a legitimate quote provides generous context from which concepts are defined and extended.

Particular attention must be given to identifying the work of others. Citations include proper quotation marks and reference/source notes. Images include proper “figure” (fig.) designations and bibliographic references. An updated bibliography must be included with all summary submissions.
