The Game Boy
The Game Boy is also known by the name Nintendo, which is a video game in hand held device, incorporating an eight bit. The Game Boy was manufactured and developed by Nintendo with the first copy in the public limelight being in April 21st 1989 in Japan. The same copy was released in American market in July 1989 and in 1990 in the European market. The initial release identified with the Game Boy line, which was part of the Game and Watch series. Nintendo Entertainment System has been credited with a number of popular games in the world market. There has been constant revision on the Game Boy series, which is meant to meet the exact needs of the ever changing market[1].
This paper has applied business process mapping and AEIOU framework. Business process mapping was involved in defining The Game Boy and the responsible attributes used in the business process. Business process mapping has been useful in the model in defining success of the business. Mapping is more like a diagram, in which the business model is looked at from the perspective of improving the game. In the business process mapping of the Game Boy, the model critically looked at a specific objective, as aligned to the company’s capabilities and values[2]. Business process mapping is more of improving the processes of The Game Boy. People barriers are the trickiest obstacles to deal with.

It can be argued that the Game Boy is an exemplary great design, in that the product has gained support within decades. The fourth generation series of the games has new features that meet the needs of the target market; in the sense that the product has stood the test of time with competitors such as the Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear and the TurboExpress. The later gaming companies have been noted to expose hand held devises that are technologically superior. The successor of the Game Boy that took the market with a storm is known as the Game Boy Color. The design has been successful in past decades and promises vast improvements in defining the future of the game[3].
AEIOU framework has been useful in developing and interpreting observations as noted with ethnographic industrial practice. The primary focus with AEIOU framework is on coding the data and at the same time developing critical building blocks that acts as the model in defining the issues and the objectives of the Game Boy consumers. AEIOU framework was used in describing and understanding the important frameworks that show the relations of the variables in play. The Game Boy has been very successful in defining the attitudes of the target consumers that in turn help in making the corrective measures of the game in developing a sustainable environment.
The elements coded in The Game Boy game identifies with the activities, the environment, the interactions, the objects and the users. Ethnographic methods were applied in defining the videos, notes, interviews, field observation and photos among others. Observations were recorded in the right observational models as stipulated in direct observations that later defines the patterns and themes in play. Game has benefited from the AEIOU framework in selecting the choices made by the gamers for future use. AEIOU framework was applied in The Game Boy in attending to the documents, consequently coding the right information depending on taxonomy of objects, activities, users, environments and interactions.
The features of the Game Boy are characterized with four operational buttons identifying with ‘SELECT’, ‘START’, ‘A’, ‘B’ and a pad that shows the direction. It has been noted that the Game Boy has a dial pad for volume control. The volume control tab is placed at the console’s right side, there is another tab placed at the console’s left side, which is used in adjusting contrast. There is a switch placed at the topmost part of the Game Boy, which is used in switching on and off in a sliding manner. There is also a slot used for placing the cartilages. Findings indicate that the Nintendo advises the users to place a cartridge at the slot as a way of preventing dust from interfering with the Game Boy system[4].
There are a number of other features in the structural designs, there are connectors for optional input and output devises. The left side of the Game Boy devise has a power supply jack, an indication that users may use batteries or external power sources. Headphone jack is also available in the Game Body device; findings argue that users have the capacity of listening to audio output through the internal speakers or through the headphones. Options for link cables are available in connecting two or more Game Boys, as long as the users are in the same game. Further surveys indicated that the Game Boy Printer can be connected in the Game Boy system. Other features are Game Boy link cable, Game Boy Camera and the Super Game Boy among others[5].
The design developed by the Nintendo is worth being appreciated by other people, in the sense that the product has gained world class support. The product models good and ethical design principles on all types of design. The needs of the target customers have been changing with time, an indication that the products produced by Nintendo must have the capacity of serving the changing preferences of the customers, to remain relevant and viable. Game Boy was originally created by Nintendo Research and Development and the Gunpei Yokoi, with diverse improvements taking shape with time[6].
Game Boy has elements of individual personalities, depending on the model, which influences the interaction between the users, technology and the game systems. There are a number of features that makes users of Game Boy explore other avenues, indicating the product is constantly changing in meeting the needs of the consumers.
Users of the Game Boy have different experiences, in the sense that the product has received unanimous reception in the global market. It has been noted that Game Boy Color and The Game Boy has sold more than one hundred and twenty million units in the global market, with the main markets being based in the United States and Japan. The products of Nintendo have been competitive enough to oust the Sega’s Game Gear and the Atari Lynx products. Surveys have shown that majority of the Game Boy users are male as the statistics collected in Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo Entertainment System indicated. The product after twenty years of operations finally received the National Toy Hall of Fame slot, which was realized in 2011, 6th June.
Game Boy Color and the Game Boy are now available in Nintendo 3D’s eShop and in the virtual Console. Game Boy has a number of other models in the market identifying with the Play It Loud, Game Boy Pocket and the Game Boy Light. The product is evolving with time as the needs of the market keeps on changing. Nintendo Game Boy was originally in grayscale color scheme, the product has received support over the years. It has been noted that the publishers and the developers has made it possible for the users to interact in making the design of a world class experience[7].
Surveys have shown that at the launching of The Game Boy was characterized with innovation and revolution, in the sense that the product cultivated real life experience through the games. In the recent years, it has been noted that Nintendo is shaping its business model by differentiating its digital releases and the physical products. The digital downloads are happening in the online platforms. The main challenge facing the organization identifies with the unreasonable pricing model and the schizophrenic releases[8].
Game Boy applied strategic reasoning in gaining the attention of the target customers, it has been noted that Game Boy applied diverse tactics when the game was released to the target market. The attributes of the game made it possible for the organization to make the right choices as noted with the trends of the ‘sliced bread’ model and the ‘freemium’ games model. There are a number of models in the market identifying with supported models, premium models and hybrid models.
Making money from the games is influenced by the type of design adopted. Surveys have shown that developing the right games in accordance with the needs of the gamers attracts the right image and attention to the consumers. The principles of the design are developed in a way that they offer value and a sense of sustenance. Game Boy has become popular with decades due to its easy accessibility and to the fact that it meets the needs of the gamers[9].
