Visit a cemetery and read the grave markers .

This is probably one of the most emotionally difficult and eye opening assignments I assign my students. When we are young, we think we will always have tomorrow to accomplish our goals, apologize to the person we are angry with, and ultimately become the person we want to be. This sense of immortality is something that each of us experiences and unfortunately for some, tomorrow never comes. For this assignment you will need to reflect on your life, what you want to achieve and ultimately what type of person you want to be remembered as. Here are some suggestions to help you get started:

1. Take a look at the OC Register and LA Times links below (or any newspaper) and read the obituaries they have printed:

2. Visit a cemetery and read the grave markers (i.e., how old were they, any photos, what words we used to describe them).

3. Go to a peaceful location (i.e., a park, beach, etc.) and reflect on your life, what you want to achieve and who you are as a person (i.e., personality traits, etc.). Take some paper and jot down some notes. Deconstructing who we are can be a challenging task, so keep this in mind.

4. Talk to some friends and family members about the assignment and how they would remember you what are your best traits, any funny stories they would recall, etc.
