I need to present 2 topic proposals for a historiographical essay; each proposal should be 2 pages long. Topic 1 should focus on Investigating the role of blacks fighting for the South. What was their motivation? Why do historians debate this group of individuals existed? What was the impact on African-Americans during this period and following the war…etc?It can be expanded a little to include both the slave and freeman experience. Topic 2 should evaluate the changing/growing role of women before, during, and after the Civil War from taking on the positions that the men left behind (working on farms, in factories, etc), to the Sanitary Commission, to disguising themselves as men in order to fight and perhaps shedding light on why historians have overlooked their contributions during the war
