In this section of the course, we are reading The Road. For this unit, you will write a paper that includes research, as academic research focuses on the creation of new ideas, perspectives and argument.
Prompt: write a minimum 6 pages paper in which you answer the question by creating a unique claim that has been shaped by your research and your own critical thinking about the novel:
Good Guys and Code of Ethics: what are some basic (3-4) \”laws of the land\” in the novel The Road? In explaining, cite specific scenes from the novel as a precedent for each law you establish in your paper and advance why each law is necessary for \”the good guys\” as opposed to \”the bad guys.\” Also, consider if the law would be needed in the Pre-apocalypse world. The larger goal of this creative paper is to consider how the end of civilization has altered laws or codes of ethics
Research: use a minimum of 2 academic- quality research sources. Sources must address McCarthy\’s The Road in some way. Please note: you probably will not find whole critical essays devoted to your prompt\’s focus regarding the novel. Rather, read through a number of essays and discover ideas that are intriguing and might lend to developing your claim.
Requirement: a compelling introduction , including a clear claim that answers the prompt.
1. Length: the essay will be a minimum of 6 pages. Additionally, there is a work cited pages. Papers less that 6 full, plus a WC, will not pass.
2. Please conduct academic quality literary research. Limit research to the Library database. You will need 2 sources, minimum.
3. Textual Evidence: quoting from the novel is necessary and required for building evidence. quoting from the academic sources is also necessary and required.
