Reorganizing a Department
A new director in the health care organization decided to reorganize the department, the decision making processes on reorganization failed to incorporate the views of the nurses that are involved in the day to day running of the organization. As a result, the nurses felt indignant or bitter about the changes.
The conflict in the organization was a result of the new director, not including the nurses in the decision making processes (Sinofsky & Iansiti, 2010). Bringing nurses on board in the reorganization of the department greatly affect the health of the organization and the health of the employees. Human capital within an organization is one of the most important resources, and including nurses in the decision making processes makes it easy in the implementation phase. The nurses feel part and parcel of the changes within the department (Sinofsky & Iansiti, 2010). There is a sense of responsibility instilled by including nurses in the decision making processes, where the voices of the nurses are put on board.
Solution to challenges being experienced in the department is through participative decision making. It is worth noting that participative decision making processes build on trust, fostering different angles of looking at issues, spearheading advanced employee’s relations and influence on the type of decisions made within an organization (Sinofsky & Iansiti, 2010). Participative decision making processes within the organization make the nurses feel valued, trusted, grow, learn from one another, advance on responsibility, foster continuous and innovative improvement and in empowering nurses in doing their day to day duties (Sinofsky & Iansiti, 2010).
Decisions in organizations in the modern era are happening fast more than anybody can imagine. Organizations have to keep on adapting to changes as a way of enforcing a competitive edge. Involving nurses will be critical in making a difference in reorganizing the department.
