Maximum and Minimum Temperatures
Search the Internet for U.S. climate data.
Choose the city in which you live.( CHARLESTON, SC)
Create a tab that reads Daily.
1. Prepare a spreadsheet with three columns: Date, High Temperature, and Low Temperature. List the past 60 days for which data is available. Include the excel spreadsheet as a part of your submission (in addition to the word document). Do not forget to capture the citation information and reference the web site for the data you collect.
2. Prepare a histogram for the data on high temperatures and comment on the shape of the distribution as observed from these graphs. (25 words). Submit a copy of your histogram in the body of the word document along with your analysis.
3. Calculate the sample mean (X bar) and sample standard deviation (S) for the high temperatures. Display your results (in the word document) as the answer to question number three. Complete the calculations in a worksheet on the excel workbook where you displayed the raw data. Submit your excel spreadsheet calculations in addition to the word document where you provide the answers to the requirements.
4. What percent of the high temperatures are within the interval of one standard deviation from the mean (X bar – S to X bar + S)? What percentage would you expect? Why? (25 words).
5. What percent of the high temperatures are within the interval of two standard deviations from the mean (X bar – 2S to X bar + 2S)? What percentage would you expect? Why? (25 words).
6. How do these percentages compare to the corresponding percentages for a normal distribution (Empirical Rule)? (25 words).
7. Prepare a second histogram for the data on low temperatures and comment on the shape of the distribution as observed from these graphs. (25 words). Submit a copy of your histogram in the body of the word document along with your analysis.
8. Calculate the sample mean (X bar) and sample standard deviation (S) for the low temperatures. Display your results (in the word document) as the answer to question number eight. Complete the calculations in a worksheet on the excel workbook where you displayed the raw data. Submit your excel spreadsheet calculations in addition to the word document where you provide the answers to the requirements.
9. What percent of the low temperatures are within the interval of one standard deviation from the mean (X bar – S to X bar + S)? What percentage would you expect? Why? (25 words).
10. What percent of the low temperatures are within the interval of two standard deviations from the mean (X bar – 2S to X bar + 2S)? What percentage would you expect? Why? (25 words).
11. How do these percentages compare to the corresponding percentages for a normal distribution (Empirical Rule)? (25 words).
12. Would you conclude that the two distributions are normally distributed? Why or why not? (25 words).
Formatyour assignment consistent with APA guidelines. Ensure you submit your excel spreadsheet calculations (with the proper citation) in addition to the word document with the answers to the requirements above.
