Consider the case: ‘My greatest failure: A case study in leadership’, by Hentze, H. In Adam-Smith, D. and Peacock, A. (Eds), Cases in organisational behaviour (pp. 71-77). London: Pitman.
Prepare a report (word limit 2,200 words) that analyzes the situation and identifies the reasons why the change of leader created the issues/problems that are seen in the case.
In your report you can draw from any topic that is covered in the OB module. Keep in mind that most times organisational problems are quite complex and cannot be attributable to only one single cause.
It is very important to utilize scientific knowledge and theoretical frameworks to analyse the case and justify your arguments and recommendations. However, you must also keep in mind that sound logic and flow in your argumentation is also critical. Hence, theoretical and other scientific knowledge must be utilized along with appropriate logical argumentation.
It must also include, at the end of the report, a short personal reflection (up to 250 words; no more than one page) on your approach to the analysis and to the generation of possible recommendations, in terms of your developing management style. For example, you could reflect upon the assumptions you bring to solving problems and/or how people and organisations should best be managed. Alternatively, you could set out your default position on why people behave as they do at work, and whether this assignment has changed or confirmed your beliefs. (This last requirement is to fulfil the learning objectives of the cancelled Management into Action core module.)
Overall word limit, 2500 words maximum.
