Using technology to increase academic success

Using technology to increase academic success

Incorporating technology in the education system has been the forefront of research focused on increasing student success. As nations struggle to get more competent and experienced people for work, most institutions have established the need to integrate technology in the learning process. As technology continues to peak at high rate, most experts such as Troshani, Rampersad & Plewa (2011) have affirmed that it has improved academic success. It is undeniable that, a large portion of technological tools have supported students in their learning process. Technology has created a strong platform where teachers can research their lessons adequately. Typically, social networking and apps tools have supported class collaboration. Technology has laid a strong ground where teachers can share their information with students effectively without having to travel in miles. Technology has increased students to students’ interaction both locally and worldwide. Through chat rooms, students have a chance to interact with other students and this has further created academic success. Through technology, information is readily available thus making the learning process fun and engaging. This research provides a comprehensive analysis of how technology increases academic success.

The use of communication and information technology has become a vital tool in the learning process (Chilton, 2012). For the last few decades, the blend and benefit of incorporating technology in the education system cannot be underestimated. It is crucial to note that, the most significant assess of the modern or else information society is information. Now, the knowledge and materials that teachers and students need can be obtained by using technology. In 21st century, technology has become a vital component in life such that most people cannot do the most simple and routine tasks without using laptop and cellular phone just to name a few. As many people continue to use technology at a high rate, students and teachers have not been left behind. Just like technology has changed most aspects of life, it is unquestionable changing education. For instance, technological tools provide easier access to information (Chilton, 2012). It is vital to note that, technology has not changed the message received by teachers or students rather it has created a strong ground to access reading materials effectively. Unlike in the past years when students had to purchase books to access information, technology has made it possible to get all information within a short period of time.  Students no longer have to walk in miles sourcing for information. They only need a laptop or computer and internet to access all information they need. As Wagner & Pant (2010) put it, most students can access information from different books found online and university libraries documented by experts. With this, students can access information worldwide without having to walk in miles. For instance, a student in USA can access a book written in Canada, UK, or Germany. This creates better opportunities for academic success.

Technology has increased academic success through the use of computers, laptops, and cell phones. Computers or laptops are important in the modern society as they enable teachers and students to access information, document assignments, and maybe share information on what need to be done. Although most school districts have banned the use of cell phones in the classrooms, most people are beginning to see and embrace the advantages of allowing students to use cell-phones in the classroom. In the 21st century, most schools in the United States, UK, Australia, and Canada just to name a few are allowing students to use their own cell phones. Mobile phones have enhanced academic success in that, students have a chance to communicate with their fellow students. The uses of gadgets have also increased interaction between students and teachers. Students can call their teachers even when not in the classrooms and inquire anything on academics. In essence, a strong relationship between students and teachers enhance academic success. This is because students have a chance to air out their educational goals and career goals. To increase academic success, Wagner & Pant (2010) believe that it is important for schools to embrace the use of cell phones in classrooms. However, students should only use the devices when out of the class to minimize distraction.

Technology has increased academic success through cost effectiveness. In the modern society, most teachers and students are equipped with E-books, tablets, and Smartphone. The use of E-book has become common in the modern society, especially at the elementary level. The affordability and availability of E-books for students and teachers have enhanced academic growth. It is undeniable that, E-books are less expensive than print copies of books. The instant access of information of e-book has attracted most teachers and students. The greatest advantage of using e-book is that, it has made reading possible to all students. Specifically, the device allows students to customize texts, page layout, and font size. This means that all students and teachers even those who struggle with sight problems can benefit from reading. As teachers are realizing the benefits that emerge from using E-book, then it unquestionable that technology is becoming more popular in the education system. The benefits that emerge from using technology to increase academic success cannot be underestimated. With this, it is crucial for schools and governments to establish ways they can incorporate technology in the education system. Basically, there are notable facilities that are crucial in enhancing success in the education success. The fast access to electronic library has increased academic success. Technology has made it possible for students to access adequate information at a short period.  Through technology, students have access to worldwide information on the web, thus making learning successful. The access to Ebooks, electronic library, and worldwide information on the web has also increased academic success.

Technology has increased academic success through increased interaction of students. As previously discussed, technology has laid a strong ground where students can interact with other students effectively. Through social media networks such as Face book and Twitter have enabled students to interact with their fellow students. Social media has enabled students to join academic forums and this, has laid a platform to ask and answer questions on different academic disciplines. Technology enables students to get faster answers and thus, making learning process fun. As students progress well in their studies, this enhances feelings of accomplishments. The increased interactions of students have increased learning excitement and a sense of belonging. Also, technology has enabled long distance learners to acquire knowledge through video links. Students can access what is going in the classroom even when absent.

In the past years, numerous researches have been conducted to portray a positive relationship between academic achievement and the use of technology. Overall, most researches affirm that technology has increased academic success through the use of computer assisted instruction (CAI). For instance, a research conducted by Chilton (2012) shows that, (CAI) increases math achievement for most students. In another research, Dahawy & Kamel (2006) found that math achievement occurred through the integration of data technology such as probes and graphing calculators. In Kindergarten, structured computer activities have made a huge difference on how children gather knowledge. Also, math and science levels have improved through the use of video-disc curriculum. From the ongoing discussion, it is crucial to embrace the fact that technology has with no doubt increased academic success.

Conclusion

From the ongoing discussion, it is indisputable that technology has increased academic success in various ways such as cost effectiveness, time management, and easy access of knowledge. Overall, this paper has outlined how technology has enabled students to save cost used to purchase printed books. Through internet, students can access books online, thus making the research more comprehensive. Technology has saved time used to gather information. Students and teachers do not have to travel in miles looking for reading materials, but they can sit at their comfort zone and access reading materials online. Teachers have a chance to learn what other teachers are doing and further, this increases their teaching methods. Also social media networks have enabled students to engage into deeper conversations of academics. Technology has increased interaction between teachers and students. Students can interact with their teachers via emails or chat rooms. This interaction increases accountability, motivation, and academic success. With the mentioned benefits brought technology, schools should embrace the recent technology innovations to succeed in their academics. Thus far, this research has provided a comprehensive analysis of how technology increases academic success.
