I insist that you use section headings in all papers (again, I insist). I know: You might tell me that the use of section headings is more work, that it’s too much work, even that it’s unnecessary. Not true! …in fact, you’ll be surprised how much more organized your writing becomes when you approach each assignment this way. Let me suggest, therefore, that in each assignment, you should include a separate section heading for each one of the major requirements (these are the assignment “requirements” that I’ve discussed above). Then, fill in the white space with your narrative response(s). Using this approach, each major requirement of the assignment to which you are writing should also constitute a major section of your paper (other major sections will be the Introduction, Conclusion, and References sections). Each major section should include a section heading – which must be clearly set apart from the rest of the text constituting the body of the paper (i.e., by centering the heading, and using italics, bold, and/or underlined font).
